This two hour beginner's course focuses on basic paddling strokes, safety and rescue. Whether you are new to paddling or have just never had any formal training, this course offers the skills and knowledge to keep you safe and comfortable on the water. The class will begin with on land introductions and a safety chat where we will go over proper safety equipment, Transport Canada regulations, weather, and proper paddling clothing. Once we get in the pool we will then learn the basic strokes needed to get you going. Strokes covered are: Front stroke, sweep stroke, draw stroke, and low brace.
The second half of the lesson will be spent on rescues. We cover both group and self rescues with and without a paddle float. This part of the course requires you to capsize the boat and get wet, so be prepared!
Participant/Instructor ratio is 3:1 with a max of 6 students
What to bring: bathing suit and towel. Nose plugs, goggles or mask if wanted all other equipment will be provided but you are encouraged to bring your own boat and gear if you have it.
Cost $100.00 plus tax for one two hour course per person. We have dropped the price from $120 so as to offset any parking costs. Cancellation, refunding and rescheduling are available if necessary. Note: The pool is located at the end of the red line in the basement of the facade of the building. Walk down the stairs to the lobby and show your photo ID to be granted entrance.
