Course Descriptions

Learn to Roll Clinics
Rolling is an important and satisfying safety skill to learn.  During these sessions we will teach you the fundamentals of rolling and give you exercises to get you closer to mastering your roll.  Rolling is a skill that takes time to perfect; Practice and a little instruction is key. Once you get your roll you will find that your confidence on the water and other skills will also improve, not to mention you will have the fastest and most effective self rescue at your disposal.

Rolling and Playing in the Waves
So you know how to roll and now want to test it out in the waves. Or you kind of have a roll, don’t need another lesson, and want to see if and how you come up with a bit of wave action. Or you never want to roll and you want to practice paddling and bracing in the waves. Or you want to practice your self-rescue in the waves. Or you just want to hang out in your boat, feel the waves underneath you, close you eyes and dream of tropical places...then this is the session for you!
The pool is a wave pool, but no worries; it’s just gentle wave action which makes it so fun to play in! We’re there to teach and assist you in anything you want to practice.

Safety Skills and Rescues

This session begins with a discussion of safety gear, what do you need, what is a waste of money, what are fun items for the gear heads! We very quickly move into the water and start practicing. Rescues covered are assisted rescue, self rescue with a paddle float, scramble self rescue and if comfortable move into bow rescue.

Advanced Rescues
Here’s where the fun begins! For those of you fairly comfortable with assisted rescue and self-rescue, we step it up a notch. We will begin with a focus on bow rescue and paddle assisted rescue. We’ll then move on to different rescues that can be performed on an injured paddler or perhaps play with all-in scenarios. We have some cool variations on assisted rescues that are great for you to be aware of. We’ll also spend time on your scramble self rescue and your re-enter and roll. A re-enter and roll is actually quite achievable. We have taught many paddlers with our method and have a tremendous success rate even with paddlers who don’t have their roll yet!
For the second half of the class we do all of this with the waves on! Woohoo! Now that’s more like real paddling conditions!

Greenland Rolling
Here’s where we pull in the best! For all of you Greenlanders or Greenlander wannabes this is the session for you. We have Kelly McDowell of the Complete Paddler, Brett Krill and James Roberts of learntokayak.ca available to help you try to add a few extra Greenland rolls to your repertoire. Whether you have been trying for ages to nail your spine roll, or want to impress your partner with a balance brace, this is the session to turn you greenhorns into Greenlanders!

Private pool lessons are available by appointment only, four weeks in advanced. Available dates are usually on the weekend in the evenings. Call us to arrange a session, one-on-one or with a group of friends to work on the particular skills you want to improve. 416 255 6905
